Back to previous exhibits Jan Erion January 6th through March of 2006 Painter and printmaker Jan Erion will show off her latest paintings and Giclée prnits in The Roosevelt Hotel's Second Floor Gallery, 1531 Seventh Avenue, Seattle from January 6th through March of 2006. The public is invited to meet the artist at a reception on, Thursday, February 16th from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The Gallery is open from 9 am to 6 pm daily. Erion's art is based on everyday moments from her family life, including Birthday Parties and High School Graduations, with images of food-filled tables dining rooms and happy participants. Her works defy convention with a certain zest: lush Victorian interiors are flattened, transforming into patterns, and humans take a back seat to food and furniture. They are quirky and punchy with powerful exaggerated colors, emotions bigger than life, a comfortable reminder of happy times. Many of the images include scraps of keepsake fabric from her family's past, old collagraph prints by the artist and other unusual collage elements from magazines and newspapers, matchbook, cigar-bands and wine labels. A number of her newest works feature scenes from life on Camano Island, where the Erion family maintains a vacation home. Scenes from local restaurants, beaches and the family cottage will be on exhibit. Ms. Erion has been a printmaking instructor at Pratt Art Center in Seattle and a former member of the Executive Committee of the Contemporary Arts Council of the Seattle Art Museum. In the past, the artist was selected to create poster art for the Washigton State Wine Commission's Annual Auction of Northwest Wines and completed three enormous commissioned works for The Painted Table Restaurant. In 1997, she was commissioned by Absolut Vodka to do a work in support of a national AIDS awareness program, which now hangs in their corporate collection.
