Bob Lucas and Suzanne Haddon
October 16th through January 9th, 2015
The reception for the exhibit will be held Thursday, November 13th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM
Artists Bob Lucas and Suzanne Haddon will show paintings, drawings, fused glass, wood sculpture and video at Jeffrey Moose Gallery from October 16th through January 9th, 2015. A reception, featuring Skype appearances by the two and live music will take place on Thursday November 13th from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.
The two artists are native to Puget Sound but now live in Costa Rica and Australia respectively. Mr. Lucas grew up in Tacoma, the son of an engineer. His career revolved around the Bainbridge Island/Kitsap County art scene and his "Bobland" studio in Suquamish. Ms. Haddon grew up in Fall City where her father worked as an artist. Both artists have a long history with Jeffrey Moose Gallery going back twenty years. Together they started a series of highly popular "Goddess" exhibitions, the last one of which took place ten years ago. They share a visionary outlook on the world, celebrating a nurturing instinct, fantasy, dreams and introspection.
Mr. Lucas has an exhibition history dating back to the mid 70's when he was juried into an exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum. He was a co-founder of the experimental Bainbridge Island co-op gallery Net Contents. His work was in high demand during his years in Kitsap; institutions and private collectors commissioned numerous sculptures and enamel on glass works. Working in paint, glass, metal, concrete, found objects and video, sometimes in deft combination, his work is often highly personal and self analytical in nature, exploring relationships and inner conflicts. His concrete fish heads and tails, as well as the four-legged Darwin fish, sold at the gallery, are found throughout Puget Sound.
Ms. Haddon established herself as a top tier graphic designer early in her career, starting at the internationally respected firm Hornall/Anderson, followed by Nordstrom and finally Starbucks, where her playful critters and people took her to the top of the department. For many years, she held sessions with nude models in a Capital Hill studio. Always a dare devil, she skied and surfed with the some of the best in the Northwest, finally falling in love with an Aussie surfer who took her to Australia's Gold Coast in 2009.
